to keep relationship warm over time:
- involve people in your initiatives & what you're doing
- figure out what people are interested —> send them an article
- reach out to them if they write an article //
- XYZ points are so interesting!
don't underestimate the power of a cold email
just engage with people you want to learn from!!
- don't pretend to be interested in things you aren't interested in LOL
- they'll be able to tell you aren't if you don't know anything about it
- prepare your questions/agenda/talking points
- no one wants to feel like you're wasting their time
GIVE AND TAKE BY ADAM GRANT
- if you're ever cold emailing them, let them know you've taken many steps to solve your problem/done your hw before
- i've done XYZ to learn more about this
- you seem to be the best person to reach out to
- reach out to your dormant ties
- think back to profs/peers/advisors
- even if they don't have the background/network, ask for an intro from them
- you're friends with so and so, i'd love to be connected
- easy to make a connection for you
